What is Pathology?

We understand the medical care process may be confusing to our patients. We’re here to help explain our part in your diagnosis.

It Starts with a Sample

  • Bloodwork

Any time your blood is drawn, the samples are sent to our laboratories for chemical testing or microscopic examination.

  • Urinalysis

Whenever you are asked to pee in a cup, our doctors perform chemical tests or microscopic examination to ensure accurate results.

  • Biopsy

If you have a mass removed in-room or through a surgical procedure, a pathologist performs a microscopic examination to determine your diagnosis.

Then, the sample is sent to our laboratory for a pathologist’s review.

For example, here is how one of our doctors would diagnose a biopsy.

For blood work or urinalysis, a series of chemical testing and/or microscopic examination may be performed by a pathologist. This information will help your physician determine a diagnosis.

If you have any questions about your lab work or diagnosis, your physician will be able to help guide you through your treatment plan.

We may be behind the scenes, but we make each diagnosis with care. If you have questions about your lab work, please contact us.
